I mentioned in Rosetta Stone lifetime that I was publicly sharing my language learning goal and I'm happy to report that it appears to be working because before I posted this I spent an hour catching up on my foreign language learning (yep, I've been slacking). That means I am still on track to complete 2 modules a day with Rosetta Stone and I've already noticed some interesting things. The immersive nature of the language learning process means that I picked up on things that I wouldn't normally such as character recognition and nuances in grammar. If I look back at my previous language learning I often would have subtitles or Romanized characters and consequently I never was forced to look at the characters themselves and now that I am forced to look at them I find myself quickly differentiating between characters.
In terms of my other skills I am actively learning I also trying to learn the piano and archery. I thought I would throw this out there since the accountability aspect of my blog is motivating me to push through the friction of learning and actually doing it. Normally when I try to start I feel like I have other more important things to do, but for some reason the impending publishing of my post gave me the nudge I needed to start. I am actually currently fascinated with archery, so I am spending much more time learning about it than I should. However, I have been reluctant to create a training plan to take concrete steps to improve my abilities as opposed to simply learning theory, so I decided I would keep my self accountable and have a plan developed for my next skill Skills Update. For piano, I started very strong the first day and then I started learning about music theory and have found myself in a rut making no progress at all. I haven't quite decided my goal for piano except that I want to be able to play a song by November 26th as a birthday surprise for my friend.
I have a number of inactive skills that I would like to pick back up once I get a process for practicing these three skills.
